I had three quotes that connected with me. 1) No one is in charge of your happiness but you. 2) Make peace with your past so it won't screw up your present. 3) Get rid of anything that isin't useful, beautiful, or joyful!
Many struck a chord with me, but the one that I still remember from last year and that I think about frequently is "What other people think of you is none of your business." I was also touched by the quote "It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you, nobody else" I had a wonderful, loving, supportive family when I was growing up, but I was overweight in elementary and middle school and was bullied terribly at school. Childhood was a difficult time for me. I never thought about it like this before. I guess I am lucky to have children to "experience" childhood with again. I've always had a hang up that I'm never good enough and I always want to control the situation at hand. I guess it's time to leave the past in the past.
Cry with someone it's more healing than crying alone. I know this to be true. Over prepare then go with the flow. I did this for the class. It worked. What others think about you is not your business. I think we'd all be better off if we remembered and lived by this.
Well, as I sit here with two of my daughters by my side, the one comment that never really "hit me" before is that my children only get one childhood. I know that being a parent is important and what I do affects my kids, but it just truly dawned on me that I'm responsible, mostly, for whether my children look back on their childhood as a whole as "happy" or "not so happy." That's definitely something I'm going to keep in mind each and every day.
Wow! Cool video...almost enough to make me change my mind about winter! Anyway, I loved the statement, "However good or bad a situation is, it will change." I find myself going into a school year where budget cuts have forced an overwhelming teaching assignment on me (K-12 Music for 48% time). I need to believe that this situation is bound to change and that if I make the most of each day I'm more than likely going to see improvement in the situation before I know it!
"Take the next small step" I've been noticing that every moment, action, decision is important and it all ends up being a million small choices we make.
A small step to each breakfast on my porch instead of while I multi-task at my computer can make a great impact on the feeling of my day.
How inspiring! Thank you again. The one that impacted me the most was that children only get one childhood. I transferred that a bit for my professional life in thinking that first graders only get one first grade. They will learn academically, but their feelings and relationships formed will be what they remember!
Wow! Many of these resonated with me. We've had a rough past few days with the loss of a friend. So, the ones that stood out were "Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone," "Time heals almost everything. Give time, time," and "All that truly matters in the end is that you loved." I plan to share these with my children as they need some healing. In fact, I'll have them watch the whole video.
There were a lot of quotes that I really liked. One was "What doesn't kill you DOES make you stronger." A couple years ago we were going through some scary things with my husband's health. He was having life-threatening allergic reactions with no trigger that could be identified. Eventually the cause was figured out, and through medication and lifestyle changes, life is much more stable now. Although I hated all the unknowns, appointments, tests and emergency room trips, and in the worst several months, was scared to death of loosing him, I can look back now and see that we both are much stronger having gone through that. Maybe the next time things are very rough in life, I will try to remember that we come out stronger on the other side. The other quote I like is that "No one is in charge of your happiness but you." That's a very good one to remember!
All were great reminders. I think the key is to take time each day to relax and reflect on many of the points in this list. Sometimes we get going so fast during our days that we forget to do this.
I liked #21 - "...Use the nice sheets...Today is special." Life is too short. In the last couple days, a 3o-yr-old HS classmate of mine passed away, and my brother-in-law lost his job, apartment, & his license. Everything can change fast...Enjoy the life that you have NOW.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. The best is yet to come. These two statements sum up the cahllenging path my life has been on for the past 6 years. It really didn't kill me and I am stronger now because of it, and the best is yet to come. I look forward to being a better human being and teacher every year!
"Get outside everyday, miracles are everywhere." Often times in December and January it's dark when I go to work and dark when I leave. During that time I find myself with low energy and a little depressed. I'm missing all that's beautiful outside. This year I plan on getting outside everyday whether it's my lunchtime or I may even take my students out for PE class. Capture the flag could be a lot of fun in the snow.
Hi Everyone! I have been burning the candle at both ends lately trying to get everything done (ok seems like I need to get everything done as if my life will be over when school starts..hmm anyone else feeling this way?) As I watch this video I am reminded once again "To get outside everyday, miracles are everywhere." and the "Best is yet to come!" I need to relax and take a step back watching this video a few times brings me back to reality!!
The one that resonated with me is dealing with the past so it doesn't mess up the future. A couple of my family members have held onto problems from their youths. I think it creates resentment in their lives to this day. I've vowed not to live that way because I don't want it to screw up the here and now.

I enjoyed quite a few of the quotes. One that I need to remind myself of is "Don't take yourself too seriously. No one else does."
